Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if my device supports eSIMs?

If your device has the ability to add an eSIM in its device settings, it supports eSIMs. The location of this option may vary depending on your device:

  • For Apple devices, check Cellular or Mobile for the “Add eSIM” option.
  • For Samsung devices, check the SIM Manager for the “Add eSIM” option.
  • For Pixel devices, check SIMs for the “Download a new eSIM” option.
What kind of devices are compatible with eSIMs?

Smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops are among the most popular devices that are compatible with eSIM technology. Some newer vehicles and industrial IoT devices also support eSIMs. View the full compatibility list.

What does “carrier-locked” or “network-locked” mean?

Carrier-locked or network-locked devices are restricted to using networks and SIMs from one mobile provider, if your device is carrier or network-locked, you can’t use SennaSim.

What can I do if my device is network or carrier-locked?

If you purchased your device through a mobile carrier, it may be network or carrier locked. This means your provider has restricted the device from connecting to other mobile networks.

A carrier-locked device generally can’t use an eSIM from another provider. To use a SennaSim eSIM, you’ll need to contact your current carrier and request that your device be unlocked.

Once your device has been successfully unlocked, you should be able to install and use eSIMs from other providers. We recommend installing your SennaSim eSIM before your trip while you have a reliable internet connection, then activating your data plan once you arrive at your destination.

Does my iPhone support eSIMs?

You can use our compatibility list to check whether your specific model is eSIM compatible. In general, eSIM technology is supported on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and all iPhone models released since 2018.

Do all devices support eSIMs?

Not all, but most flagship smartphones from major brands (Apple, Samsung, Google) will support at least one eSIM, but some new phones still don’t offer the technology. Even fewer tablets, smartwatches, and laptops support eSIMs. Check our list to find your device model if you want to be able to use SennaSim. View the full compatibility list.

Can I use an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?

Yes, if your device supports it, which most recently released models do. All iPhones from the iPhone 11 onwards support Dual SIM, while the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are limited to using one eSIM alongside one physical SIM at a time.

Is an eSIM tied to a phone?

Yes. An eSIM can only be installed once and cannot be transferred to another device. Any plans associated with that eSIM also cannot be transferred to a different phone.

How to activate an eSIM? (iOS and Android)

With SennaSim, activation is simple. Once your eSIM is installed, your data plan will begin when it connects to a supported network. We recommend keeping your eSIM turned off until you arrive at your destination, especially when using a regional plan.

For iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data, or Mobile Service).
  3. You will see your cellular plans. Your eSIM will be labeled as “SennaSim” “Secondary” or with the name you gave it.
  4. Tap the eSIM to open its options. Then, simply toggle the switch on or off.

For Android:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on Connections, Network & Internet, or Mobile Networks.
  3. On some devices, you will see the eSIM listed here. If not, tap SIM Manager, Mobile Network, or Manage eSIM.
  4. Choose the eSIM labeled as “SennaSim” “Secondary” or with the name you gave it.
  5. Turn the eSIM on or off.

Remember to turn on the eSIM as soon as you land at your destination, and you will be connected to the closest local network.

When should I set up my eSIM?

Set up your SennaSim eSIM before you travel while you still have a reliable internet connection. Once you arrive at your destination, simply turn on your eSIM and enable data roaming to get connected. We also recommend saving a copy of your QR code before departure, just in case you need it while traveling.

How can I check how much data I have left?

To check how much data you have remaining, simply log in to your SennaSim dashboard using the details provided after your purchase. You can also monitor your data usage directly through your device’s mobile data settings.

When does my eSIM data package expire?

Your eSIM data package will remain active for the validity period shown on your plan, provided you don’t use all of your data first. The validity period begins once your eSIM activates.

Most eSIMs activate when they first connect to a supported network at your destination. However, some may activate immediately upon installation, regardless of your location, so we recommend checking the activation details for your specific plan.

How can I get an eSIM?

You can purchase an eSIM directly through the SennaSim website. Simply choose your destination, select the plan that suits your trip, and complete your purchase online.

Most newer smartphones support eSIMs and can be set up with just a few simple changes in your device settings.

What is the speed that I will have with a SennaSim eSIM?

With a SennaSim eSIM, you can connect to 4G, LTE, and 5G networks where available, just like a local data connection. Speeds and network availability can vary depending on your location, and you may experience slower connections in remote areas or places with limited coverage.

Can I buy an eSIM for multiple countries?

Yes. If you’re traveling to multiple countries, you can choose one of our regional eSIM plans instead of purchasing a separate eSIM for each destination. SennaSim offers regional plans covering Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and more, allowing you to stay connected across multiple countries with a single eSIM. Before purchasing, simply check the countries included in your chosen plan to make sure your entire trip is covered.

Can I make calls or send texts with my SennaSim eSIM?

SennaSim eSIMs are data-only and do not include a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS.

You can still make calls and send messages through internet-based apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger and similar services.

What smartphones have eSIM support?

Since the launch of newer smartphones without physical SIM card slots, eSIM technology has become increasingly popular. Many modern devices now support eSIM, including Apple iPhones from the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR onwards, as well as many Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, OPPO, and other smartphones.
